Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy
What is Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)?
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy is an advanced, minimally invasive treatment that harnesses the body's natural healing power to accelerate tissue repair and reduce pain. PRP involves using a concentrated blood sample rich in platelets and a variety of growth factors essential for healing. Platelets stimulate tissue regeneration, promote cellular repair, reduce inflammation, and improve blood flow to the targeted area, accelerating the healing process. The plasma is injected directly into the injured or painful area to promote regeneration and repair of damaged tissues.
Conditions Treated
• Osteoarthritis (joint pain and degeneration, particularly in the knees, hips, shoulders, and spine)• Tendinitis and Tendon Injuries (e.g., tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow, Achilles tendinopathy, rotator cuff injuries)• Ligament Sprains and Tears (e.g., knee, ankle, or elbow ligament injuries)• Muscle Injuries (e.g., muscle strains or tears)• Cartilage Damage (joint cartilage repair)• Chronic Pain (persistent pain in muscles, joints, or soft tissues)• Plantar Fasciitis (heel pain and inflammation)• Patellar Tendinopathy (knee tendon injuries)• Bursitis (inflammation of the bursae in joints)• Arthritis (joint inflammation beyond osteoarthritis)• Back Pain (including disc injuries and spinal facet joint pain)
Benefits of PRP Therapy
• Accelerates Tissue Repair: PRP helps repair damaged tissue more quickly by stimulating cell regeneration and collagen production.• Pain Relief: PRP helps decrease inflammation in affected areas, which can lead to pain relief and improved function.• Safe: PRP uses your blood, so there’s a low risk of allergic reactions or infection.• Promotes Natural Healing: PRP uses the body’s healing properties, making it a safe and natural treatment option. • Long-Term Results: Many patients experience long-term relief from pain, with improved mobility and function after treatment.• Non-surgical: Our services are minimally invasive, requiring no major surgery, and have a shorter recovery time than traditional surgery.
How does the Treatment Work?
• The treatment is performed in a medical office and typically takes 30 minutes to an hour, including pre and post-monitorization.• Blood Collection: A small amount of blood is drawn, typically from your arm.• Centrifugation: The blood is placed in a centrifuge, which spins the blood to separate the platelets from other components.• Preparation of PRP: The concentrated platelets (PRP) are extracted per protocol and prepared for injection.• Injection: The PRP is injected by your healthcare provider into the area of injury or pain using a needle. Ultrasound guidance is utilized for precision depending on the determined area of injection.
What to Expect After Treatment?
• Mild Discomfort: Some soreness, tenderness, or mild aching at the injection site is common and may last a few days.• Temporary Pain Flare: You may experience a temporary increase in pain or sensitivity as the PRP begins working to promote healing.• Swelling or Bruising: Mild swelling or bruising around the injection site may occur and typically resolve within a few days. • Ice and Pain Relief: If you feel discomfort, apply ice to the treated area and use over-the-counter pain relievers like acetaminophen (Tylenol) to manage mild pain.• Limited Activity: To allow for healing, avoid heavy exercise, strenuous physical activity, or activities that may stress the treated area for 1-2 weeks. • Return to Routine: Most patients can return to normal activities within a few days, although some soreness may persist briefly as the healing process takes effect.• Gradual Improvement: Pain relief may take time. Notable improvement occurs gradually over the next 3-4 weeks, and full benefits take 1-3 months to develop.• Healing Process: PRP stimulates the body’s natural healing processes, and the whole effect may take several weeks to months to manifest.• Monitor Changes: Pay attention to pain, muscle function, and overall comfort changes to assess how well the PRP treatment works.• Follow-up Appointments: Your healthcare provider will schedule follow-up visits to track your progress and determine if additional treatments are needed.
